Penny Larkins & Carl Pannuzzo: music
Everything of mine is just a little bit broken!
Penny's 11 year old, after more than a year of sharing domestic space with Carl astutely commented one day, "Carl, everything of yours is just a little bit broken.." Carl could no more deny this statement than to be inspired to write about it - a true story indeed. This however goes out to ONE particular very new and very great acquisition that we're really hoping can herald a new trend in Carl's physical possession.
This was a personal exercise in Penny and Carl's increasingly popular 'Build-a-song' workshops for kids and adults. The next of these will be held in the City of Casey for the 'Casey Sings' festival between June 26 and July 3rd and on July 5th for kids. More info, have a look at http://www.casey.vic.gov.au and click on their Winter Arts Festival. Lots of fun...
Everything of mine is just a little bit broken
I’m like an accidental goldilocks
The bough breaks everytime it rocks
I got a heel hole, in every pair of socks
And that always makes me cry
I got a secondhand fridge and the freezer don’t freeze
I can’t celebrate spring ‘cause spring makes me sneeze
Everything I own or loan is only a tease
And I too often wonder why
My pepper grinder don’t grind, and my kite don’t fly
I can’t keep things in one piece no matter how I try
‘Cause everything of mine is just a little bit broken
My stereo’s not a stereo, only one speaker works
And my mobile phone well let’s just say it has a few quirks
My piano isn’t grand with only 87 keys
I bought a 2nd juicer but I left it overseas
My girlfriend’s car is only broken since she met me
My laptop has a keyboard without an S or V
My one-armed sunglasses sit on an angle 3 degrees
And there’s scratches just on the lens of the eye that can see
My printer’s got a tea light candle-sized hole
And only superglue holds together my favorite bowl
Even my ukulele got a split ‘n’ missing screws
My headphones lost their head now they’re impossible to use
I tell ya everything of mine is just a little bit broken
Even things I buy new aren’t in working order
A kettle or a dust-buster only kinda sorta
A bike without a 3rd gear, derailer derailed
And every 2nd email saying message sending failed
My house . . . will never be spotless
But Hundertwasser said the straight line is godless
So hopefully I’m somehow at least in the right direction
By everything’s incessant imperfection!
Every single piece of clothing has an old food stain
And there’s even question of the constitution of my brain
I can improvise at best but there’s no structure to my art
And let’s not even talk about my wife’s poor heart
Now tell ya everything of mine is just a little bit broken
